Trees to plant near swimming pools

Question:  noticed the site recommends palm varieties near a pool. I have only 3-4 feet from the edge of my pool to a wrought Iron fence. Is this too close to the pool? Will the root ball eventually expand to crack the pool? Are there any Trees/plants/shrubs suitable for this application? Thanks in advance for your assistance

Answer:  A lot depends on soil conditions. Have someone come out and take a look
